Glide Vehicle Maintenance, Odometer System & Player Mechanic System

Back

Now that we're running Glide vehicles, it'd be a great opportunity to add a light vehicle maintenance system to create new RP scenarios without making the driving experience frustrating.

Vehicles accumulate hours on the engine based on your personal playtime in that car. Around the 10–15 hour mark, a subtle dashboard warning kicks in (performance is still fine, just a nudge). If you ignore it past 15 hours, the car starts noticeably degrading, top speed drops, acceleration feels sluggish, maybe some exhaust smoke. Past 20 hours you risk random stalls and a hard speed cap, at which point you genuinely need help getting to a shop.

The point isn't to grief players with a broken car, it's to create a reason to stop, interact, and spend money.

The service itself could require buying items from a servo or player shop, with engine oil being the main one. Optional deeper items like tyres (degraded by drifting/offroad) and coolant could be added later for more variety.

Keep the existing server-run AutoShop as a 24/7 fallback. It resets everything at a fixed price, no frills. Alongside that, introduce a licensed Mechanic job/business that players can run. The server shop does the basics; the player mechanic does everything:

  • Full service & degradation reset
  • Respray
  • Rim swaps (since we are porting a bunch of cars theres the potential to have heaps of rims)
  • Engine tune (boosting top speed/accel within a server-set ceiling so it stays balanced)

Odometers & the second-hand car market

Each vehicle could display a running odometer that tracks the total distance driven on that specific car, accumulating across its lifetime regardless of who owns it. This opens the door to a proper second-hand car market on the server. When a player lists their car for sale, buyers can inspect the odometer contributing to how much a car can / should sell for.

This is just some thoughts I had, Obviously if this were to be implemented it should be tweaked to suit CityRPs needs 😊

Thanks for reading 😌
